Target Corporation asked me to work on a set of seven Adobe InDesign CC 2018 scripts to help them automation the production process of their print advertisements. The scripts were written in the ExtendScript language for future longevity and cross-platform performance.
The project required a deep understanding of the workflow used for Target ad production.
Five of the scripts were revisions to existing scripts that had been originally created by others. This required reverse-engineering the scripts and understanding the intent of the original developers.
Two of the scripts were brand-new, written from the ground-up to meet Target’s specific requirements. Two of the scripts were “CEP panel” scripts, requiring not only a knowledge of ExtendScript but also HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create custom interactive panels for InDesign.
One of the scripts also required interaction with the Macintosh file system that was beyond the capabilities of ExtendScript. This required writing an AppleScript that was called from the ExtendScript to do this processing.
This was a complex project with a lot of moving parts, but it was completed on-time and on-budget. The customer was very pleased.
It was a pleasure working with you and I really appreciated your responsiveness, insight, speed and expertise on providing us solid solutions.
